In the midst of the rolling hills, Belize’s mountainous region, bi-national river system, and rich cultural heritage is found FCD actively engaged to conserve some of Belize’s most impressive wonders. Co-managing the largest terrestrial protected area in Belize, namely the Chiquibul National Park and the largest cave system in Central America, the Chiquibul Cave System, is a major responsibility for all of us that comprise FCD. It is also a privilege for us to operate in the Chiquibul Forest which forms part of the largest contiguous block of tropical forest north of the Amazon. FCD’s various programs, including environmental education, enforcement and patrols, community outreach, and research and monitoring, work together to achieve this goal.

FCD’s Cultural Heritage Technician and the Karst Management Unit tested two methodologies to determine the most effective approach for collecting data for the cultural inventory in the Chiquibul. The testing is aimed at making the monitoring and inventory of cultural remains more effective. All data collected is being referred to the Institute of Archaeology.
