2023 Patrol Report: Our rangers have been tirelessly patrolling the area, covering extensive distances on foot and by vehicle to protect the region. Looking ahead to 2024, we’re focusing on enhanced coordination and consistent ranger presence to further safeguard this precious ecosystem.
2023 Nesting Season Ends: Our Research Unit and volunteers closely monitored nesting areas, resulting in the successful fledging of scarlet macaw chicks. While documenting poaching activities, we continue our efforts to preserve this vulnerable species.
Community Survey Finalized: We conducted a survey to gauge public perception of the Belize River’s environmental importance. Findings revealed opportunities for increased awareness and community engagement in watershed protection efforts.
Binational Taskforce Reactivated: Collaborating with Belizean and Guatemalan partners, our taskforce is addressing forest fires and working to prevent cross-border incidents, ensuring the preservation of our shared natural resources.
Stakeholders Discuss Tourism: With the development of a paved road to Caracol Archaeological Reserve, stakeholders convened to establish sustainable tourism guidelines, prioritizing the protection of wilderness areas.
Stocktaking in Vaca F.R.: Our recent stocktaking exercise in Vaca Forest Reserve identified prevalent agricultural practices and highlighted the need for policies to prevent further deforestation, preserving critical habitats.
Jaguar Data Sharing Signed: We’ve partnered with WHAPA Lab at Virginia Tech to enhance jaguar monitoring efforts, ensuring the conservation of these iconic species in the Chiquibul National Park and beyond.
Annual Operation Plan Submitted: Aligning with the approved Chiquibul National Park Management Plan, our Annual Operational Plan details conservation targets, threats, and management activities for the fiscal year ahead.
