Destination Chiquibul Cave
The Chiquibul is the perfect learning laboratory. Located within the extensive Mesoamerican Biological Corridor, rare and endangered species occur here including endemic plants, 5 species of wildcat, Baird’s Tapir, Scarlet Macaw, Howler Monkey, Juliani Frog, and the Keel-billed Motmot. You’ll experience one of the most unique broadleaf forests in the world while helping to promote conservation of this region. Departure from San Ignacio and surrounding areas is at 5:00 am in the morning with two hours’ drive to our ranger base. From there a military land rover will transport you to the nearest location for another two hours after which the hiking may be for some 4 hours. You will practice use of a GPS and compass along the route in the company of rangers. Camping takes place near the cave entrance. This is a completely exclusive opportunity since the cave is not open to the general public. Only small numbers can join us on these monitoring trips to the cave. The Magnificent Five
Departure from San Ignacio and surrounding areas is at 5:00 am in the morning with two hour drive to our destination. 40 minutes up stream brings us to the confluence of the Upper Macal and Raspaculo Rivers. We spend about five hour in the area covering about seven km bird watching and documenting wildlife. Home | About Ecoquest | Contact Us
